Fall Fun in Salem & Roanoke

Are you looking for a little fall fun in Salem or Roanoke, VA?  There’s a lot going on in the area in the next few months.  Of course, you don’t need an official event to have your own fall fun.  There’s a lot you and your family can do on your own.

Love theater?  The Showtimers of Roanoke Valley theater is hosting a run of Dracula through the end of September.

There are great art exhibits going on all around these two cities.  The Smoyer Gallery, the Olin Gallery, the Taubman Museum of Art, and the History Museum of Western Virginia all have some great exhibits coming during the next few months.  History buffs will be interested in the History Museum’s Miles of Memories exhibit, which is set up using scrapbook-like panels displaying some of the biggest moments in the area’s history.

If you want to get out and learn something new, how about learning the rumba?  The Green Ridge Recreation Center will be hosting an intermediate Rumba class every Saturday through October 20.

The West End Community Market will be head every Tuesday for the next few months.  While some people might wonder why that would be considered fun, it can be very fun for those who love perusing fresh fruits and vegetables and talking with those who grow them.

Love Celtic music?  On October 3, the award-winning Celtic Thunder will be performing live.

The Vinton Fall Festival and 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for October 13.  This fun event is held annually and includes crafts, food, live entertainment, monster truck rides, and much more.

But if you can’t make it to any of these events, you can always make your own fun.  You can play in the park while it’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors.  You can have a picnic, go camping, or just play outside with the kids or with your animals.  When it gets a bit colder, you can set up a fire pit outdoors and warm yourself around it while enjoying the crisp air.

Naturally, staying indoors is also an option.  During the fall, many people like to stay in and bake some of those wonderful fall treats.  They also clean and light the fireplace, break out the board games, and start spending more time reading.
